It's listed as: SCREW 93219-55014

So it must hold something together.

Mud, i think you're describing the part WITHIN the part i'm asking about. the screw goes through the center of it.

after an hour of searching, i just found a site that still offers toyota parts diagrams. (thank you to villagetoyotaparts dot com for still providing these)

the diagram appears to describe this little round item as a "hook" of some sort,on several split fold down seats of SUVs. i'm wondering if it is part of a retention system to hold the seat in its folded-down position.

i know there's a strap on the seat bottom that flips forward, so maybe this strap connects to this "hook" and keeps them in place.

anyone with experience to confirm this?

Cyberman, i don't think any vehicles had baby seat tiedowns in '88.

thanx Mud, i couldn't get that image to blow up that big. i think the way it's illustrated, with that strap shown near it, that it is to secure the seats when they're in fold-down position.

i was wondering if i should bother to replace them as i'm replacing the carpet on the seat backs now. i doubt i'll ever need them, but i like things original - and i have them, so i'll probably reinstall them anyway.

or not.

If you still have your owners manual, check pages 19-20. Toyota has apparently been putting provisions for the child seat strap in their vehicles since 1983.

Got the info from here: http://www.ih8mud.com/tech/tsb/Toyot...r/bo010t02.pdf

Although, it does look like a good place to use to make a seat reatiner.
