Help! This cable is loose and I don't know what it goes to

I was doing some work on the Runner today, and was surprised to see some cable hangin. I couldn't find where it could be plugged into. Any help would be great. Thanks

my 1st gen 4x4 p/u had the same thing....except..mine was hooked up....there is a small bracket just to the left of the cable (if ur looking in the picture)..idk what it was...but i didnt need....because a shop took it off...and the bracket..and grinded it all down real nice...but i too would like to know what it is...

that is the LSPV rod, there is supposed to be a bracket that attaches to the 2 bolt holes on the housing, then the rod bolts to it

You do need it, it regulates how much braking power goes to the rear depending on the load you may be hauling. The heavier your load, it will weigh down the back of your truck causing the valve to open more and increasing braking power.

No wonder my braking has always sucked on this truck!! Do I just re-attach it to that bracket? It doesn't look like it plugs into anything... A friend and I looked everywhere and that was the only place we could think of, but it looked useless.

It looks like your bracket is broken. those 2 bolts by your muffler is where it should go. You can just zip tie it up to something under your truck and it will give you full braking power to the rear.

If I get a chance, and you haven't fixed it already, I'll see if I can get some pictures of what it looks like hooked up so you can see where it goes. It'll be Tuesday or so though....

For now tie it up to the frame or wherever you can up there. It will increase your rear braking power and you may decide not to even move it back down to the axle. If your LSPV is locked up like a few of mine have been in the past, you will notice no difference and you may as well tie it up and leave it until you either replace the LSPV or forget about it. It leads to the valve on the pass side of the frame right by the tubular crossmember that the gas tank mounts to. Hope this helps. It is designed so that when you hit the brakes really hard and the front dives it triggers the valve to apply more braking power to the front. If you tie it up you get the same power to the rear brakes all the time.

My braking sucked up until just recently. A small metal piece that was part of the self adjuster on the rear drums was broken off and laying in the bottom of the drum on one side. And they other had a leaky wheel cylinder that probably was not getting full pressure, and the leak caused that sides self adjuster to freeze from rust. That, and my rotors were way past due for replacement, and my pads were down to bare metal.....
