heater question?

wondering if the ac pump needs to be attached for the heater to work? i think the ac and heater are 1 single unit? its on an 86 4runner!

Nope, only thing the a/c and heater really have in common is the ducting and blower.

Mostly what muddpigg said...
... but you could find the a/c compressor cycling in the defrost position.
