heater core please help!!!I have
I have an 86 Xtra cab 4x4 22re while replacing the entire a/c system I decided to get rid of the 30yr old factory heater core for good measure so after a long search I can't seem to find the correct replacement I had O'Reilly so order me 6 of the same part # at the same time and when I opened them on their counter there were 2 different heater cores u don't know which one until u open the box and both are wrong...1 is too big in every way (LxWxH, tube diameter, and even spacing between tubes) the other is too small in every dimension. ..so I tried advanced, amazon, eBay, 2 local stores, and rock auto...when I talked to rock auto they checked and said there is an extremely high return rate on cores for these part numbers and that he agrees with me that the aftermarket seems to have screwed up the dimensions. ..so I thought I'd be proactive and contacted the manufacturer of the cores that I was finding most commonly and when I told this guy my story and theory he first blamed it on O'Reillys then when I told him about the rest of my sources he told me to go get 20 more and take pics of the boxes and of the product inside and report back to him...I told him I was trying to be proactive to get the problem fixed not work for him for free...so now I have put the 30 yr old core back in my truck with new o-rings and just gave up ...now it has started leaking and I have to find the correct new part...this is my daily driver and I have to fix it PLEASE can anyone help with info on finding the correct part?

I have bought heater cores from Orielly. There are two to choose from. One is from Mexico and the other Taiwan/China I think. I forget which one is the correct one. Ask them to order both heater cores and compare the one to yours.

Both of the Oreillys ones are wrong and I'm not willing to put an old part that deep on my dash too much effort to skimp besides having to discharge and recharge the a/c

I got one for my 1987 4Runner SR5, no rear heat from RockAuto two years ago.
The first one I bought was totally wrong. Wrong size, tubes were super long and not removable.
I returned it and bought a different brand for the same application and it fit, had the right tubes (the super short stubs that connect with the special clips), but the core was shorter than original. This left a gap between the bottom of the heater core and the bottom of the heater box. If you take my truck apart today you'll find 3 or 4 shop rags stuffed in there to keep air flowing through the core not under it.
I keep all my 4Runner receipts in a folder so I'll see if I can find the brand and part number I bought.
For what it's worth, it is possible to remove the heater core without discharging the A/C. It requires some extra work but saves the cost of refrigerant and the associated work.

I have been looking at toyotaparts deal also but last month their VIN entry said my truck was a 4Runner and now it says the VIN isn't correct for any vehicle so not much luck there so far...can anyone tell me what a "low deck truck" is? That keeps coming up and I've never heard of that...maybe just another name to go with pickup or hilux?

Just some info for people trying to buy a heater core.
In 2012 I purchased APDI/PRO 9010006 from RockAuto. This is listed to fit my 87 4Runner SR5, non-turbo, non-rear heat. It did not fit. It has long integrated tubes that do not work.
I returned it and bought Vista Pro 399321 from RockAuto. This is no longer listed on RockAuto's website but a Google search shows it available at Advance Auto, Napa, and Autozone under various reboxed brand names. This heater core does work on my 87 4Runner, SR5, non-turbo, non rear heat. It is the same thickness and width as factory but it is slightly shorter leaving a gap between the bottom of the heater core and the bottom of the heater box once installed. I stuffed a few shop rags down there to bridge the gap. To this day this heater core is installed and working fine.
