Heat/defog

1988 4runner, 22R-E, Automatic
Now thats its been really ty i have discovered that me rear window defogger doesn't work and my dash windsheild defoggers barely blow out any air. Would the rear deffogger just be something electrical?and with my front fans they barely blow any air warm or cold. The highest setting on mine is like lowest on a normal vehicle. any help much appreciated

Rear defogger trouble could be-
a) bad fuse.
b) bad switch.
c) bad wiring (not likely except at the tailgate)
d) bad relay (located just to the rear of the tailgate window relay, both of which are behind the trim panel behind the driver's door)
e) bad window grid or connections on glass (more probable)
The least invasive check would be-
a) check fuses and breakers.
b) test disconnect switch and verify continuity with a multi-meter.
c) remove inner tailgate trim and test for voltage at glass connections.
this also means checking for good ground quality in the tailgate.
d) remove left rear passenger trim panel to get to relay. Listen for click when pressing buttom. None? Then replace relay.

Best to check everything for condition and continuity before buying parts you may not need.

Blower could be weak for a couple of reasons.

Do you have working (albiet slow) multiple fan speeds?

If yes, you probably have a clogged fan (leaves, bird mung, etc.)

Best to tear out the blower and clean it out before doing much else.

I have not had much trouble with Toyota blowers other than loosing the slowest speed on the switch, but if your cowl doesn't have screens in place, you more than likely have a clogged up blower.

Best of luck to you.
