Hey guys I have a little issue with my headlights. My passenger side light is dimmer than my drivers side light, when i turn the high beams on the passenger side turns off but the drivers side works correctly. When i looked closely the passenger side had a small glow too it not completely off. So i bought a new head light and that did not fix or change the problem. Any ideas? Oh and last year i did the high beam fix in the column...

 

Try checking the headlight grounds, and possibly the headlight relay.

 

x2 on checking the ground. had the similar issue with my 87 runner. lows worked fine highs just went dim. i re did the grounds and they worked mint.

check the plug that goes into the headlight the battery is on that side on my 94 runner and the wires all went to crap because of the acid

 

might help a hair if we knew the truck you're doin this on? lol

although almost all headlight wiring between '86-95 are close to the same lol

 

Sorry it's an 86 4runner with 22re and auto tranny. my wire are messed up pretty bad and the plug is falling apart, Where can I get a new plug?

 

Ok just put a new plug on the headlight and cleaned up the wiring. Still no change. Also cleaned up grounds. Hmmm. Guess i need to do the relay? But can the relay cause this issue?

 

Any ideas guys? are there specific grounds just for the headlights? Where are they located?

 

Dont bother with the relay...it is common with both lights so is not your problem. My only guess now that you have checked grounds and connections is old wiring, maybe a splice has become corroded. Start by voltage checking the passenger side fuse (test the hot side). Check also the voltage at the bulb connection. You can then take your fuse out and disconnect your headlight from the wiring and run a resistance test on the wire. Use your other (working correctly) side as a baseline. High resistance in the power feed to the passenger side light can cause dimness, you should see a significant voltage drop at the headlight if this is the case however.

Now, yota lights are -ive switched so there is no solid ground. Again check for poor wiring (bad splices etc) along the line back to your combination switch. The switch itself has to be fine as again it is a common item. The red/green, red/yellow are your grounds for the lights.

you should replace them with H4 housings and bulbs, and 4crawler's upgraded headlight wiring harness LOL
