The shop didn't give you an estimate beforehand?

Anyway, the headgasket set will run about $150-$200. Alldata shows about 12 hours for the job.

So- shop rate x 12 + $200 = total cost.

If we assume $80 an hour (not sure what your shop charges, it may be higher or lower) you will be paying about $1,100-$1,200.

That's also assuming that you're not replacing the timing belt or water pump (which you probably should).

I'm guessing this is a 3.0?

as Cyberman alluded- you should get the timing belt changed out and the water pump too while it's apart.

haha, excellent, i knew i should have joined up earlier, ummm that price sounds about right, and thankfully about 500clicks ago i had the water pump and belt done, so it should be sweet. It is a 3L, and quiet the fuel guzzler.
UMMM another question cos i got it converted to gas, every time i switch it over to petrol it runs really rough and sort of lags when i press down on the pedal, could this be due to the petrol filter needing replacing???

umm... converted to gas... you mean LPG or propane?

I suppose the fuel filter could be an issue, but this may be an issue caused by the transition from LPG to gasoline/petrol (never can get used to calling it that) and residual affects from the mixer and the ECU taking over fuel mixture control.

hmmm cool cool, ill have to just live with it, yeah the engine is a 3vz-e just got it converted to LPG, i keep forgetting the Americans call petrol (gas), ill make sure im clearer next time. Once i get the runner back from the the mechanics ill have to put in a new fuel filter and see if it makes and differnce. OHHH and i must worn all u runner guys out there, that you should never replace the rear speakers they happen to be the best kind and sounding ones out there, i kid u not. LOL just a heads up

Thanks for the heads up about the speakers, but I didn't replace my rear speakers... just bypassed them and have 2 12" subs, 2 8" bazooka tubes and 2 4-way 6x9's taking their place.
