head differences??

ok so i supposedly picked up an 85 head today for 75 bucks with no cam, looks like its been polished up and cleaned but when i got it home theres a slight difference.....the exhaust ports are different....the new one has circular ports and mine has pear shaped...is this a 20r head? did i get duped or do i have an aftermarket head?? ughh ill have pics up in a min or so..thanks for the help

BAHH i hate my luck sometimes, errrrg its either that or its a 20r head, ive looked at some pics of a 20r head and it looks similar

yea you bought a head for a 22r with an open combustion chamber for the domed pistons on the 22r block thats why the round exhaust ports.

any 1 know wich way the valve guides come out??im guessing through the top, im gonna try my hand at replacing that guy...

could be a 22ret turbo head usually low comression

It's not a turbo head it looks like a tall block (early) 22r head

they come out from the top yes. but b very careful. they are very hard and thus very brittle. (new and old) and that head is an early 22R head. if it were an 84-85, it would have 8 exhaust stud locations, not 7. it is an 81-83

It would be 22R-TE not 22ret. nissan technology does not apply to toyotas. sorry. one of my pet peaves. and if it were a turbo head, it would have the 22R-E intake pattern as well as the 8 bolt exhaust and the fuel pump boss would be cast over. Used to work in a big engine rebuilder R+D dept

thanks guys, im seing about getting my money back from the guy, and if that doesent work ill have this one for sale and i guess im gonna purchase another, at least now i know what to look for, (was dumb and wanted to hurry up and get it and get it ON!!)
