Head compatibility

I recently found out i have a carcked head on my 87 4 runner (22 RE) will a head from a 1982 (22 R) fit?

no.. you need a a 85-95 head.

don't the heads vary in height?

I think the deck height of the block on a 22r is higher than a 22re.

i was wondering. had a friend who tried to put a head on his, and the t-chain wouldn't fit. so it is the block that is taller. thanks.

Like DudeBud said, '85-'95 interchange. No difference between 22R and 22RE heads.

i know this thread is old but i have a simalar issue i blew a head gasket last week on my 88 runner and my neighbor has a head here is all in info i have on it currently 85-86 22r does any one know if this might work on my 88 runner? what do i need to look for to see if it will work? im a noob when i comes to this so any help / advice is a huge help
