hauling 1500 lbs in my 1st gen?
today after work, i'm going to pick up some hardwood flooring for my weekend project (hopefully only weekend project and not a 2 week ordeal
). the guy at the store said that it'll be around 1500 lbs. i have a 1st gen 4runner with no back seats, and i should be able to fit it all in there, i'm just worried about the weight. i know that the pickup version of my 4runner are nominaly 1/2 ton trucks. what do you guys think about hauling 1500 lbs about 5 miles through town, i.e. no high speeds or large hills or long distances?
thanks!

For a short trip like that I'd guess it'll be fine. I used to haul way more than that in my little 86 2wd PU much farther than 5 miles and I still got over 300k miles out of it with no troubles. Just take it easy and you'll be ok I think.

I do construction, and I have put that much in mine several times. You probably will be riding on the rubber stops, but it should be fine if you take it slow over bumps. Distance and hills don't really matter, just watch for bumps.

just pump up the tires to a reasonable pressure -- my old ones called for 55 lbs with that kind of load -- to avoid slicing 'em up. i had no troubles at all with that kind of weight for a few miles. just as everyone said, just take it real easy -- it drives goofy with that much back there. it's a bit like driving on ice... you're fine if you just take everything 2x as slow as normal.

i'll have to take some measurements to see how high the back really is, maybe it's more than 2", but ome said their springs were good for 2" above stock (which i guess looks like more because of the typical rear end sag)
