Has anyone else had this problem with their 22RE

Took the truck into the dealership today to have an oil leak fixed because I just don't have the time to tear into it. They called me and said the head gasket is leaking oil?? I have just never heard of this engine leaking oil out of the head gasket, now antifreeze is more commom. I think there pumping me full of BS because the oil passages are more in the center of the head and the water passages are located more on the outside of the head. If I was leaking oil out of the head gasket that means it should be getting into the antifreeze to...right? If I am wrong on this please let me know.

Thanks

Might be a valve cover gasket and they are calling it a head gasket. Remember it's a dealer were talking about.

Where the front timing chain cover meets the head is what they are talking about probebly. The headgasket seals the top of the cover to the head. If it leaks there you have to change the head gasket or goop it up .

What good would that do? If he has a leak, its just going to make a mess again.

If he is going through all the trouble to clean it, he should locate the leak and either A. fix it himself or B. take it to a shop/dealer to be fixed

I agree if you are the type that cares that much about a little oil leak unless it is very bad.

If you clean it up really good and but some goop on it, it will seal. There is no pressure there so as long as the sealant sticks to the cover then it will hold it in for a while.

You really need to pull the cover and put sealant on properly. I would not pull the head and change the gasket just because of a oil leak though. You run the risk of other problems after.

Its a Toyota, it will run with no oil....

Actually, the oil passages through the head gasket are at the front and rear of the engine. Coolant passes through every other passage in the gasket. The passage at the front is under pressure from the pump and supply oil to the cam and rocker shafts / arms and the oil drains to the pan through the rear of the engine as well as around the timing chain area in the front of the engine.

i wish that was true... *sigh* a couple days ago a guy i work with did an oil change on a brand new tundra with like 14,000 miles on it... put a nissan titan filter on it (he got confused) ...must have really forced it on there (look at the filter between a 07 titan and 07 tundra and tell me the difference(s) you see)... guy left, it was back within 3 hours... OILOUT! thank CHRIST i was off that day, but im still getting hit for it... the whole shop is. and he was fired. i feel really bad for the guy. 12,000 dollar motor. so no, even mighty toyotas wont run with no oil.
back on topic: no i havent had that one happen with my 22re, but id say its the valve cover gasket, not the head gasket.

little oil?? Why doesn't everyone just leak a "little" oil. Throw a "little" trash out the window. Little things create big problems for other people.
