hard start AC compressor

hard start AC compressor
when the truck is cold, the engine has a hard time turning to start. It seems like it has a combination of a weak battery and a stuck AC compressor. I also noticed the AC belt slips and makes frequent noises. in the morning I can hear some noises coming from the AC compressor too (squeeky with a tick)and goes away after a minute with engine runing.
Can AC compressors go bad even do the AC works fine? I have a feeling the engine is having a hard time spining the compressos at all times with AC off or ON.

The AC compressor spins fine with the AC on or off. What I do notice wrong is the belt slips with the AC on or off often. Obviously it slips more when the AC is on. (I'm going to double check the belt tension again).
But what I'm really concerned about is the grinding noise the compressor makes in the morning a9nd it does it with the AC off. It's probably worse with the AC on but I havent try it yet in the morning.
I guess what I'm trying to ask is do compressors seize and cause stress on the belt/accessories even if the AC is off?
I'm going to take apart the belt and tensioner pulley. maybe is the tensioner pulley bearing.

if your a/c works, like it blows cool air, your compressor isn't siezed probly just a bad bearing somewhere
forgive me if it seems off topic, but, are you still running good ol r-12 or has it been converted? and if so a half ass conversion kit or was the filter/dryer at least replaced too? ntm running steady vacuum then nitrogen purge vacuum again before adding newer refridgerant

to be honest with you i dont know if it has r-12. i did take it somewhere for a recharge. they didn't take anything apart and charged very little. more than likely it was a half assed conversion/job.

prolly 134a conversion if someone filled it for you. with r12 you gotta get a little crafty on who you talk to.
the only reason i ask is that r12 and r134a refrigerants and their respective lubricants are non compatible. they say with the newer conversion kits out there that they somehow got above that, so you dont have to completely evacuate the system, but im pretty skeptical on that.
i'd say take the belt off, check the idler/tensioner pully, check that compressor pully spins freely a/c off and with a good, grind/noise free resistance with button on and key on.
if your system seems to be leaking, but works, run it till it dosnt work anymore cause the effects of the conversion have already done their damage.
im getting ready for an a/c makeover soon

i got lazy and didn't remove the AC belt/tensioner/pulley. the ac belt seemed tight enough for now. instead I decided to check and tighten the PS and alternator belts. they were extremely loose.
im going to drive it a little bit more and pay attention to any more slipage and noises. if it continues i'll check the compressor and the rest of the related parts.

the guy that charged my AC system was supposed to be a pro and was done at his AC shop. i did see he evac the entire air/freon out of the system and put in new stuff. he had like a 5 gallon steel tank of freon and from there filled out my AC system. not sure what it was..
by the way I'm currently living in Mexico so they do things very different down here. they used like a refrigerator motor as a compressor to evac the system and also to pressurised it to see if there were any leaks. then they disconnected the weird stuff once they sucked everything out of the system/ lines and connected that big 5 gallon steel tank and started to fill up to a certain amount.

holy crap sounds like im goin to mexico!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i think your alright then, bad idler bearing at the worst if you still have noise. dont quote me on that though

yes it was very cheap and more for me. i got lucky the full service was supposed to be like 400 pesos (35 dls) but ended up being half of that. because we skipped one step at the end..that was to make sure the compressor worked properly and rest of the stuff once it was charged. hence the reasson I'm here posting ;p
