Hi all, wondering if some folks here would please weigh in with your knowledge and experience?

I am installing an LCE header and noticed a leak in the 3rd Sparkplug. I pulled the plug and saw this. Does an adjustment need to happen here? I can send more pics if that would help.

Motor Background: 40k mi, Weber 32/36, etc.

Looks to me like oil on the outside of the plug. Probably a leaky valve cover gasket. Harder to diagnose, of course, with the engine apart. Might be worth replacing the gasket while you're in there. And if you're doing that, you'll check the valve clearance.

What about the color of the plug? Does that look normal?

 

I agree. It looks like oil is leaking onto the plug from outside the block. If you were getting that much oil in the cylinder itself, the plug would probably be blacker and cruddier.

The plug looks like basically every one I've seen come out of a Toyota - a little burned, and with some mild deposits. Screw it back together and drive it.
