Got rid of that Jake Brake sound!

Well that noise from my intake has been driving me up the wall.. my 94 22RE makes a jacobs brake kind of noise when I let off the gas and coast in gear... what the heck . My 85 didnt... my GF's 90 doesnt make any noise..
sounds like... WHUDDUDUDUDUDUUDUDUUDUD when you let off the gas, coming from the intake
hmmm...

whats this hose coming from the intake? ... Ive never seen a 22RE with that.. ?

(the hose that goes along the intake pipe)

(not my engine)

seems to be part of the EGR...?... bye bye

I blocked it off and no more jake brake!! YESSS bye bye

its the air suction reed valve. not egr.
all it does is inject clean air into your exhaust. thats what those two small pipes are for on the manifold.
you will be fine by disconnecting it. just be sure to hook it back up when testing at the emmissions place.
early 22RE's didnt have this system. thats why you've never seen it.

and for the record your engine will last longer and run cleaner if you dont F with the egr. dont think by disconnecting the egr, it will gain power.

How the heck do you come to that conclusion? The EGR is putting nasty exhaust back into your intake.. Im pretty confident my engine will run longer with it blocked off.

i have that sound!!!! i got it by taking off that stupid elbow going into the airbox from the intake behind the headlight. its the intake silencer, stupid piece of crap makes the air go through a maze to keep it quiet. pop the rivets and throw it all out. i love my loud intake

since its burned fuel, it cools down the combustion chamber.
when mixed it creates lower emmisons.

i dont care if you guys block off the egr or pour coolant into the engine. im stating the facts of how things work.

I'm not arguing with you...

I understand how it creates lower emissions, but how does it cool down the chambers because it's burned fuel?
