I got a 94 Toyota 4runner 3.0 v6 4x4 I just bought today they told me ac didn't work due to clutch not engaging but I turn the switch on and air blows on and off good but not cold any ideas?

The clutch is burnt up on my 89 4runner's compressor .. the air will always blow, it just never gets cold (meaning the compressor isn't kicking on). Auto AC is tricky, the parts can be had for a couple hundred dollars and you can replace them yourself, but you'll need to find an 'honest' shop to evac the system before you work on it, and then pull a vacuum and recharge it when you're done. If you can swing it, I'd just have a shop do the entire job. Its kind of a PITA!

It is worth finding out if the compressor is indeed bad, or just the clutch. If the entire compressor is bad, its a good idea to replace the drier/accumulator and expansion valve as well, since the compressor will sometimes blow pieces into the system and damage these parts.

My ac has been broken since i bought it, electrical gremlins and now a bad clutch/coil .. just can't justify the cost right now - but i'd love for it to be working, been in the 90s for weeks now and it is hot!
