Aloha from bakersfield...

I got a 1992 v6 pickup that i am trying to lift.

I want to go three inches, but the only kit I can find is the downey toyota kit, and thats $3100 bucks.

I'm never going to do anything real crazy with this truck. Basically just trail running, and a little hill climbing. I usually stay out of the mud and have to real interest in rock crawling.

I'm seriously considering the pro comp explorer kit at this point. The entire kit is about $800 and is a 4" lift.

I've checked wheeler offroad, performance productions, etc... and there just doesnt seem to be much available out there.

Am i missing something?

 

Here is a very simple way to get right around 3" of lift.

Get yourself some 1.5" balljoint spacers - 110 bucks or so
get rear shackles OR the "long" add-a-leafs 1.5-2" of lift
And get yourself a small body lift 1-2"

That combo will be much better overall then your run of the mill bracket lift.

I took my truck out today against my buddies tahoe...

He's got 6", toyos, blah blah blah.

I'm all stock and stayed with him all the way with no problems.

The trip did make me decide to go ahead and just get a real kit.

I'm probably going to go with the pro comp explorer 4", and run 265/75/16 mud terrains.

I realized its capabilities stock, and now i am hungry for more.

I talked to my old boss at the tire shop I was working at, he said he could do the lift, installation, and alignment at $1200 which isnt bad, so I think i am going to go with that.

I'm still open for suggestions, though.

I dont know what your wanting to spend, but i got the 4" kit from rough country its like $700, the cheapest suspension lift i could find and its pretty sturdy and there are very few modifications to make and no welding. I'm pretty happy with it

 

is the body lift a must with this plan?

Also, have you seen this system in action?

 

Go with a kit that uses full length brackets instead of the tabs that the procomp uses.

Superlift, Rough Country and Skyjacker all use the full length brackets. Rough Country is the way to go out of those because it is a Superlift kit with cheaper coatings.


The bj spacers basically just give you 1.5" the same way a tbar crank does. Most people put those in and relax the tbars back out to get more flex at the same height.
