I think that since I've already got the EGR off, I'm just going to leave it off and block off the ports with some aluminum and the stock bolts and gasket and plug or cap the vacuum lines. RBX, I've read through parts of your thread a couple of times because of all the ideas I love and my 88 looks exactly like yours on the outside (plus a fair bit of rust)

^^^ thanks, Red is the fast color....
If your truck isn't from Cali(perhgaps carfax it, my truck was from Florida with MD tags), then you could probably remove the whole system without worry, not even necessary to do the resistor trick, In fact, i just unplugged the VSVs associated with the EGR and PAIR, and the ECU never gave a code. I will admit that lots of my success were due to Mudhippy's tips from other posts.
AND don't forget to plug the EGR valve bracket bolt hole in the plenum, it will create a HUGE vacuum leak when removed.

already made the plug for the plenum, cut up an aluminum can last night and going to try to find some plugs at homedepot this morning for the vacuum lines. although I haven't seen anything in any of the threads about problems with using aluminum cans, I think I'd feel better using thicker aluminum so if I love the mod after I test drive it I think I'll put the effort into chopping up some sheet aluminum. Got pics of most of the process too so I can make a build thread.

haven't fired it up yet :/ the nuts from the plenum are caps so they won't snug down to seal the hole, about to go get two replacements now

I am having an issue with the EGR, but mine is wiring problems. I had a few mechanics(3 to be exact) try and install a 1987 fuel injected engine out of a 4runner into my 1984 Pickup. The EGR Temperature Sensor Connection is non existant now, I removed the intake manifold to check to harness and it just isnt there. Not sure what to do to get that hooked up and working correctly. Any Ideas, I am at a loss...
