progress

made some progress. had to order some knuckle hardware. waiting on backing plate deletes to come in. got my high pinion in, and chromoly shafts in. oddly enough, the 3rd slid right in and the axles also went in with no grinding at all. i did some measuring and i believe this setup will end up one inch higher than my current rear, so a 1" rear block will level me off. i have OME packs in the back now.

new lower bearing caps

hardware

knuckles on

high pinion

Almost done

Worked pretty hard in the truck this weekend. Swapped in my new rear 3rd from ECGS. Got the knuckles built and hubs assembled and on. Now for the wild part, the steering fit. Like fit pretty dang good. I did bitch the frame and boxed it due to the castle nut, but I did not move my box or clock it. I used the 3/4 drop pitman arm from Sky. I still need shocks and bump stops. I also modified my ARB bumper to fit. I cut off the side braces, and as luck would have it, the small gap between the spring hanger and the front cross member sandwiched the lower part of the arb bumper. I’ll get better pics of it later. To compensate for the lost side supports, we cut some braces that tie in from the spring bolts to the tow points on the bumper. I’ll get measurements soon. But it sits dang near level with the old man emu springs I have in back.

Notchy

Wheel spacers until I settle on a hub widening plan

Getting there

Shiny

Notice the little spot weld on the center of the hanger, I cut that which opened that gap and allowed the ARB bumper to fit in.

Shackle anger is a little steeper than I’d like but I can live with it

Custom bumper braces

Front view finished stance

Rear view. Sits almost level.

Man that's some super clean work. Well done. Have you had it fully flexed out? Curious on your up and down travel numbers. It sits super nice compared to a lot of SAS'd vehicles I've seen which sit way too high for my liking.

I can’t flex it out until I mount some bump stops. Up travel will be minimal but I expect some awesome droop.

Looks good!
when you go to fully weld the spring hanger in will you take care of the cracked frame on the left front cross member?

on your front shackle angle you could push the front springer forward an inch before you fully weld it in. i would suggest that, my springs ended up sagging more and my rear shackle angle sucks

no cracks in the frame, must just look like it in a photo. I decided to leave the spring hanger where it’s at for the sake of mounting the bumper. I may regret it down the line, but only time will tell.

What is your mounting length, spring hanger to shackle hanger? I know sky recommends 44.5".

On the topic of frame cracks, are you planning to reinforce the frame for the steering box?

What size tires in the pics? What's the frame height under the doors? Looks nice and low.

my center bolt to bolt measurement is 42.5. To be honest I never noticed that 44.5 recommendation, I just tacked it all in place and went with what I wanted. I think it will be fine, just slightly lower .

Final touches

I ended up moving my shackle sleeves back a few inches. After the springs settled I didn’t have enough room to compress them. Used the recommendation from a previous poster (and Sky) for the 44” measurement. After that I had to throw a 2” block in the back to level it out. Future plans are to move to a 63” spring, maybe next year. Ended up with some 36” tires and they fit very well.

So how low is it, what did the frame height under the doors end up at?

Measurements

if my research is correct, I came out to 6” total lift over a completely factory truck. Wheel edge tk fender lip on front oem is 13.5”, rear is 11.5”, my truck is sitting at 19.5” and 17.25”. This is significantly less than most trucks I have seen, coming in at 8 or more inches sometimes when using 5” springs and longer shackles. I think I could drop the front a hair BUT I would be dang near riding the bump stops. I also already barely clear steering.

rear end fixes

so in a rush to get my truck drivable after the sas, i threw some 2" blocks under the rear springs and then added some 4crawler ebrake cable extenders. well, it all fit and the truck sat level but thats about it. i was getting some driveline shimmy from the bad pinion angle and also some bad axle wrap with the blocks. it was all around not a fun truck to drive on the road. i knew the only real right answer was to nut up and do some rear springs the right way. anyways, here is the finished product. these are f150 length springs, sold by sky. i initially set them up, front hanger 7.5" forward and rear shackle hanger 3" back. the shackle angle is perfect in my opinion but the ride height does not match the front. i have decided to go ahead and ditch the 4" shackle plates for some 6" plates, which are on order. i am also still trying to figure out which shocks i need and set up some bump stops but my initial impressions are good. i also got my new front drive shaft in from tom woods.
