I'm gathering a shopping list of things I'm going to buy for my truck. I've needed new shocks for a while.

My truck has a lift done by the first owner. Previous owner didn't know if it was a body lift or a suspension lift. As far as he knows, it's stock, but he says he thinks it's a 3" lift. How can I tell if it's a body lift or not? Also, how can I measure the lift? I need to know in order to buy the proper shocks.

Seeing as how I've never owned a toyota truck before (only my second vehicle) I have no idea what stock lift size is and where to look for this stuff.

 

If it has a body lift there will be a gap between the frame and the body. You will be able to easily tell if it has a 3" body lift.

 

Before I even owned the truck I would always gawk at it and drool over it. (was owned by my friend's brother.) A few times it was parked in the driveway my friend and I tried to determine what kind of lift it had and we couldn't find any spacers between the body and the frame. Maybe we didn't look hard enough, but I'll do some searching and see what I can find for body lifts.

Is there a way to see what model of shock I have on there now? What "size" it is? There's no brand or serial numbers on it, and they're rusting on the outside.

Notice the frame shows a lot more.
Easy to see the body lift is under the front bumper (large cylinders supports in front of the rad) or from the rear wheel well, look around for a bunch of 3" tall plastic cylinder placed around the bed.


Suspension lift:
Someone might be able to supply to some pictures.


Best bet just to get the shock part numbers.

 

if it's stock and you have the stock shocks you probably have body lift and the t-bars cranked to some degree.

 

Huh. Looking at those pictures, maybe there isnt a lift. I never knew they rode that high by default. I'll have to double check. If not, then that makes this post moot.

eh, now that I look at the second picture with the lift, mine looks in between that. But I can't be too sure. I'll double and tripple check when I'm at home in the parking garage.
