So, I have been dealing with a very good and reputable machinist for the past few days. I took my motor in completely stripped but with the head and timing set still in place. They stripped down, washed and inspected the block, as well as the head. He said that all was in descent shape, but that the motor could use some freshening up.

After talking for a bit, I gave the OK for basically a complete rebuild of the block including including a bore and new pistons, as well as a rebuild of the head and a new timing set, gaskets and all.

He is going to price everything out for me, but he said that I was looking at somewhere in the price range of $1000-$1200 for all parts and labor as well as a complete gasket set and everything to get the long block back to me.

I asked him about doing a few things to add some power, and he sugggested surfacing the block, balancing the motor and possibly a more aggressive grind on the cam, but that with it being fuel injected, I could end up with something that does not run very well if I try to go too radical.

I want to know your thoughts on this! This will be my daily driver, and non-wheeler (for now anyway), so I can't have something that sacrafices driveability. Basically, I wouldn't mind doing a coulpe cost effetive improvements, but nothing too radical....

I am having the machine shop rebuild if for me. We were discussing decking the block, balancing the motor, and maybe putting a more agressive grind on the cam. I would like to know if thats a waste of money? Would I be better off throwing on a header, or opening up the intake? What are some other cost effective mods?

 

look at that web site very reputable person good products you can find out everything there....I have 3 22re...one stock, one with bolt ons, one with cam and bolt ons....get the rv cam, valves, and such from him and never look back...

 

or check 22re.com, pistons and camshafts will be the best bet!!!!!

 

I was checking out this site and the prices look good. I like how their are more options for kits and hope certain parts can be replaced with others. I think I may have to give them a call soon fro my turbo motor i'm building!
