Which gears do i need?

Hi there,
I am new to the yoda fam!
I just purchased a 1988 yoda sr5. It has been setup and used for off road, but I'm converting for on and off road use as it is my daily driver. It is currently set up with 5.29 gears, and a 5” lift kit and a 3” body lift.
I want it to drive smoothly on the express way. Currently in 5th gear it vibrates so much. I assume if i geared it down i would gain some speed along with reduce the vibrations? Also it came with 35” mid tires, but they were shot. I switched to a 31” all terrain tire.

the gears are not likely to be causing vibration. look at the tires, driveshaft, alignment, steering parts (tie rods, etc), wheel bearings.

you went to nh to buy it?

Check out 4crawler.com should be in drive train chapter. Look for driveline101 link. It talks of different style joints and operating angles and angle of flanges. Of course check for any looseness also.

5.29s with 31s has gotta be over geared. Bet it pulls hills awesome. Are you measuring speed by speedo or GPS?

4.10 is stock I believe but like others said the vibration is most likely being caused by something else, I would guess the driveshafts or tires, or a combination of both.

You also know that truck has been axle swapped if its an 88. Plus the big lift. Theres lots of places to start looking for driveline vibrations.
For gears: https://www.roundforge.com/articles/...ules_of_Thumb_

Cool truck btw! Looks like someone already put a lot of work into it.

Wallytoo's post hits the point. My bet would be on the tires. I can't tell you how many times Toyota truck owners with offroad tires would come in talking about vibrations, but wouldn't even consider the tires. I'd go grab another truck and swap out the rims and tires just to shorten the conversation.

i'd stop offering any advice/opinions in this thread until the OP actually responds. 1 post total, nothing so far after the comments.
