i skipped over alot of the posts---BUT--I went the Detroit Softlocker and 4.88 diffs way and with a manual tranny it was to harsh for me.

I now have an E-locker and the conversion is really easy. but now i can lock when i want to and......

Plus there is a guy here on the site who is selling E-lockers for pretty cheap (i would be weary of that though)

My suggestion--get E-locker, gear it, mod axle housing--enjoy

No kidding, when I hop in my girlfriends 95 I can bearly see! My e-codes absolutly destroy them in terms of output and light quality.

Good man! I spent almost $140 on my e-codes, worth every damn penny though.

There are plenty of 4.88s in BC for a reasonable price. Where are you located sinneDBTB?

I went true tracs front and rear and geared 5:29s a couple of months ago and I like it. Granted I have little issues when it pulls tires up I have to press the brake down but I swear that thing goes up STUPID steep stuff even rutty stuff and scrambles when needed to the top. It rocks in deep snow, sucks REALLY bad on ice and overall is alot of fun, if I wheeled more Id have gone Full locker in rear and true trac in front for steering.
EEEHHHH! Either way it still goes places open diffs wont and up stuff they wont. the best is the big ol jacked up chevys here in Socal or the fords popping the throttle and try going up something just to back down or not make it over and me being able to just drive on past them, or go over the rocks and use the brake method and just crawl over.

Either way good luck and gearing/lockers is probably the best thing to do to a truck!

i am in the process of moving back to vancity. but right now i am in williams lake. i talked to a few of the area wreckers... one guy said $1600 front and back and he said it with a straight face. had to laugh at that dude. for the most part it seems like wreckers want too much.

Matt16 you know of a set i can get my hands on?

You do realize wrecking yards have overhead costs don't you? And unlike private sellers on CL or Ebay, they are trying to make a profit and run a business. They also offer a warranty, of which the same cannot be said for private sellers.

Remember, cheap=CHEAP

$1600 seems pretty high, but then again thats candian money so its about $50 american

I am from WL so I guess I know who you went to. That also sounds like the PG Toyota wrecker pricing LOL. Try the Kamloops trucks recycling, worth a shot. They might not think the rust on the parts is gold.

$1600 for used diffs that i would have to pull with zero warranty is a rip off no matter what the exchange rate is. i can get brand new diffs with lockers from marlin crawler and still have enough money left over to buy some AMERICAN STOCKS!

cariboo towing. i have had some good and a lot of bad experiences with those guys. i called them for a ignition switch, the wouldn't sell it to me unless i bought the whole steering column for $350. they must think those parts are better than new.
pinetree in pg wanted $400 for each diff. they are better to deal with. i am going to just wait for a decent deal to come along.

In light of the new information......they are indeed crack smoking individuals.

$1600 would be a good price if they were MINT, no rust, LOW MILES (less than 50K) and they pulled them for you, and came with a one year warranty.

If we charged 1600 for diffs, they would be in that condition (low miles, mint, etc) and they would have a warranty. What wrecking yard doesn't have a warranty now-a-days?

Go up there and with a stick

Thats odd, since every recycling yard here in WA offers a stardard 30 day warranty. We give a 99 day warranty!

Back in Van, there are a couple guys you could get in touch with. less than 5 phone calls, and I guarantee you'll find a 4.88 third for ~$175

Man, Canadians are weird

Even down here in Texas where they dont have teeth we get warranty on parts. Must be because of our liberal (as in laxed) gun laws---

Just kidding--Canada is on the agenda for a road/wheeling trip here soon....
