Gear pop out

First off, I've searched and found that it is likely the shift linkage bushing that is worn out

My question is:

Will I do any further damage to the transmission if I keep driving it the way it is?

It only pops out of 2nd on occasion, often when slowing down. Don't really mind it. May get around to fixing it in a few months, but really busy right now with school and would prefer to have a friend back home help me out. Determined to replace it if it means saving further repair costs down the road though.

Any input would be greatly appreciated

1994 toyota pick up. 2wd drive, regular cab base model if that helps at all

Do a search for "pops out of gear" and you will find dozens of people who solved this problem with a new shift lever socket and seat. These are a couple of small, cheap parts that are very easy to replace. I bought mine from Marlin Crawler here: http://www.marlincrawler.com/transmi...t-lever-socket.

Since this is real easy and can prevent more serious damage to your gears I would do it right away. Odds are it will solve the problem. If not, at least you haven't spent much time or money and can move on to further diagnosis.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Cheers!

I put a wood chip behind my shifter in my 87 where it connects to the tranny so it's a little harder tocshift but solved it for me

they call the part a "shift shaft seat" at the dealer. Shouldn't be too hard to replace.
