Gas Cap Mod

I'm sure someone has already done this but -

I have always been frustrated that there is no where to put the gas cap while pumping gas. My Solara has a cap holder on the inside of the door and I thought I was going to find a way to make something like that until it hit me. I went to the local junk yard and picked up a gas cap that has the plastic teather on it. I just drilled a hole in one end, pulled one of the screws from the fuel neck and ended up with this:

Total cost - $2 and about 10 minutes

Well check that out... cool idea.

Thanks for sharing. Not often YT has mods that cost less than $5.

awesome mod! I always put mine on the tire or the roof and every time I drive away I think to myself "I hope I remembered the gas cap". I'll probably be doin this mod very soon!

Nice, simple and smart. A good post for under $20 mods.

neat, my gas cap usually goes either on the wheel well or the gas pump.

My Solara has something like that which was my origional intent until I got to the junk yard and saw the caps with the tethers.

I am not sure what kind of vehicle it came from but its on my 89 4Runner. They had a bunch of caps on a shelf and they let me take a few out to my truck to find one that fit.

Cool mod for < $5.00... I ususally just rest mine on the tire lately that way I never [knock on wood] forget the foolish thing...
that ebay link was cool too...
so what OR and NJ don't have self-serve pumps?

I can speak for Oregon at least...can only pump your own fuel if you have a diesel, top fill(like a motorcycle or corvette), or a custom paint job that you don't trust the gas jockey to not spill. Even then, it depends on the station, some get pretty weird about it if you start pumping your own diesel.
