Fuel tank issues...

Well, for the third time now, I have to pull my carburetor apart and clean the needle valve. The truck sat for a while, and has accumulated some shmegma in the bottom of the tank. There was no fuel filter on the truck when I bought it, so I put in a Napa Gold fuel filter. It stopped the clogging of the carb for a while, but...it has happened again. So, I need some input here. I plan on dropping the tank tomorrow, and I can't afford a new tank...So, I need to drop it and douche it out with something. I was thinking diesel fuel? Something cheap that was remove the spunk that keeps making my needle valve stick, as well as clogging my darn filter. Any input would be great! Thank you!

Depends on what is in the tank. If it sat for long enough, the tank is going to be rusted and you may not be able to clean it at all.

Diesel would work as a decent cleaner, just make sure you get it ALL out when you are done, or your engine will constantly smoke.

the tank looks fairly new, if you knew how the filler neck was you'd understand...i'll get a picture, but the truck's a stepside, and the bed that the guy put on has the hole for the filler neck on the drivers side, and like most toyotas, the filler neck is actually on the passengers side. so he cut a hole in the top of the tank, and ran it straight up, and the vent tube comes out of the same hole...so any crap in my bed, gets into the vent, therefore, to the bottom of my tank it goes. So, tomorrow i will be fixing the filler neck, and douching out the tank. I figured diesel would kind of grab anything off the bottom of the tank on its way out. I also considered marbles in there to help clean it, any thoughts on that? thanks for your help deathcougar.
