Fuel Pump Flow Through

Would anyone happen to know if fuel can be easily drawn through the in tank fuel pump on a 1995 4Runner 3.0? I have converted my 4Runner to a VW ALH diesel, and would like to use the in tank fuel pump intermittently, but only if it allows fuel to flow through when not running. Thank you

Using the in tank fuel pump intermittently? Why? What are you using as a full time fuel pump and why can't it supply fuel on it's own all the time?

To answer the question, in general, yes, you can draw through an in tank fuel pump. I've seen a LOT of 20R & 22R carbed pickups where the in tank fuel pump went out, and people didn't want to drop the tank to fix it. They just spliced into the fuel line ahead of the tank, added an aftermarket electric pump, & drew right through the old pump in the tank, basically using it as fuel pickup.

Why? Because the 4Runner pump is generating ~60 PSI of pressure which is far too high for the VW TDI injector pump. However I would like to keep the 4Runner pup for starting the vehicle, priming the system, etc. However, I have decided on a bypass with pressure relief valve which will limit pressure to the injection pump to about 10 PSI and return the excess via the return line to the tank. But thank you for your reply
