Fuel Pressure Regulator VSV

I broke the blue fuel pressure regulator VSV for my 1988 toyota, the little black part on the end. It looks similar to this one...

I want to verify that this just vents vaccum to the atmosphere and is not a one-way valve and can be left broke off? In other words, Toyota does not make this part number anymore and I either have to run it like it is or do a bypass and hook up the fuel pressure regulator directly to manifold vaccum.

Has anyone else just run a broken (black part) fuel pressure VSV? Was there any hot starting issues that were incountered due to missing this part?

Thanks

That little black part is a miniature air filter. It's just there to keep dust from being sucked into/through the valve. Coincindentally, one of my VSVs is missing that part too. Been that way since I bought it. It's not the VSV for the FPR though. It's the VSV for the PAIR. But it never caused issues with it. Of course I only ran it like that for a few thousand miles before I disconnected it. It and the VSV for the EGR are just sitting there unused at the moment. Since I've removed both the PAIR and EGR systems from my engine. Which means I have one spare filter for my FPR VSV. Not giving it up though, sorry.

You could probably scrounge one up at a junkyard. Might even get it for free. I don't mean by stealing it. Just that most of the time I ask for the price on a tiny little part like that, the guy usually tells me "take it, it's yours".

It's good to know that it's not a one-way valve and just a filter of sorts. I think I am just going to run it and see what happens. If it starts giving me fits, I will just by-pass the entire system and run vaccum directly to the fuel pressure regulator.

On a side note, do all fuel pressure VSV's work in the same mannor? The part number for my truck is 90910-12066, which is discontined. I found one very similar in production year on ebay, part number 90910-12035, but they really don't look the same. If the VSV's work in the same manor, then I will just get it see if what happens.

Glad you chimed in hippy...

Well, they're similar enough that you could use the filter from it on yours. If that's what you mean. But if you mean plug and play, I'd say you'd have no better than a 50% chance. Because even if they were compatible electronically, one could still be different enough in terms of the vacuum routing through it to cause confusion as to which hose goes where. And/or which port is open/closed when. Which basically means, AFAIK they're all similar enough that you could make any of them work in place of another if you had all the specific details regarding their individual designs. But that's pretty speculative at this point. I've never fiddled around with enough of them to know much for sure about 'em. Just knows what I've read, and can see from the 3 I have on mine(of which only 1 is still being used).

I have mine on and when the car is on, it constantly makes a clicking noise. I'm gonna bypass it later this week...I think 4Crawler had some really good info on this thing on his website somewhere.
