Fuel Filter Removal W/O BL?
#1
Well, I've replaced mine, and it was a pita even with a 1" bl. A friend of mine has an 88 runner (22re m/t 4x4. basically my runner minus the aesthetics), with no body lift, and I caint even fit a wrench up in there with room enough to turn it! How do yall folks who aint have a body lift get to yer fuel filter?

And also, we were gonna be cleanin out the egr valve (told by a mechanic that'd probably help a little bit), and I was just wonderin how you go about doin it? I know where it is, and how to get to her, but how bout cleanin her out? Something I should do to my own runner since we're gonna be doin his anyway?

If I am not mistaken , the fuel filter is in the tank with the fuel pump right ?
There is an access panel under the passenger side rear seat .
4 phillips screws if my memory is correct
P.S I like your choice of colour , my last 4Runner was an 85 on 35"s locked front and rear , dual cases ........etc , etc .....and it was "John deer green" I considered Kawi green , but JD was readily available in Tremclad spray bombs .

Haha thanks. Thats awesome. Yeah, it was hard for me to decide between john deere green also. Ended up goin with kawa green so it'd match my dirtbikes lol...
Hmm, maybe on the 3.0/3.4, but not on the 22re. It's right next the oil filter. We said screw it till daylight and got drunk instead lol...

Well there is a little prefilter in the tank before the pump to keep dirt out of the pump, but the main fuel filter is inline between the tank and engine. Passinger frame rail on the 3.0, side of engine on the 22re.

Oh , good to know , I have never needed to change one yet , so I just assumed it was in the tank with the pump .

What is with everyone giving crap info when they don't know???? He knows where the filter is.
Anyway, there is a rightup on here for a few different ways to do it. DO a search and you will find something. It mostly ends up that you take the filter bolts out, that hold it to the block, then disconnect the lines. It is a royal pain in the ass that is why I never do it. They are good for the life of the truck so I don't know why you would change it unless you are running mud through your tank. Maybe if the truck was sitting for 10 years with gas in it. Injectors are running at around 40 psi I think, so you would need a huge blockage for the pump not to keep the rail full. If you don't believe me cut the old one in half that you take out and see how clean it is.

I R&R the filter on my 22RE EVERY time the cluch is out - its REAL easy to do then
There are two bolts that hold the filter the the bracket and (If I recall right) three bolts that hold the bracket to the block - no need to move those.
Bolts can be easily accessed via the passenger tire well - tho its a bit harder if you have a Downey dual hoop. Loosen them but do NOT remove them.
The fuel banjos are losened by
a) lying on top of the engine and reachind DOWN past the intake
b) from the front of the engine with a LONG extension bar
