front LSD?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Toyot...QQcmdZViewItem

That's the listing. I sent an email over to ZUK to see if this is the right one for the 7.5 ifs front end under an 86 pickup. I read through the two threads on here about swaping one in and found another on another site but all the numbers (which years had MK?? motor and the 5-7MGE? tranny etc) really got me mixed up.

Can one of you tell me if this thing will fit?

your looking for a mk2 86.5 and older have the 7.5 diff
mk3 86.5 and newer has a 8 inch diff and works in the rear
turbos had the lsd
best way to know for sure is the sticker on the diff itself

Oh. So then that one won't work if it's out of an 88 and will fit the MK3. Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks again. If I can find one for the front then ZUK will be doing mine also.

edit. I did find some axle codes. Looks like I need a unit coded F??3 or F??5 where F is the 7.5" ring gear diameter, ?? is the ratio (doesn't really matter since it'll get changed) and 3 or 5 are 2 pinion LSD or 4 pinion LSD.

Sound right?

It shoud fit if its the 7.5" Supra diff. you need one bearing from a truck and one from a supra to get it to fit if i recall, but it should work out.

I think it would offer limited benefit BUT i don't hve a front LSD myself. In the rear of the Supra, both back tires have pretty close to the same amount of weight (thus traction) on them in all but the most aggressive cornering, so the LSD doesn't have to be that powerful to prevent the inside tire from slipping. Of a truck, the LSD may help a little in the mud, but often in mud (or other slick surfaces where both tires have similar traction, if one tire is slipping, the other is pretty close to slipping itself, so having both tires spinning won't be pulling much harder than if you were open. A traction aiding diff (as you knwo) is REALLy useful on surfaces where the wheels have drastically different traction, but here, the LSD won't be able to perform well as the clutches just won't grab that hard.

Junkers - from your posts, IMHO, you wheel to much to live with the offroad limitations of a limited slip. Get a real locker - you'll be a lot happier in the end.

Ah..... I'm just kicking around ideas for my next upgrade. I could slap an Aussie in the front next week but...... well Toyota is all about inovation and thinking outside the box. Besides I think an LSD would be more forgiving than a full locker when we get ice and snow out here.

Do you get much ice and snow in New Mexico? I can only think of less than 5 days this year where a a front locker would have been a problem. That is to say, there have only been 5 days this year that I NEEDED 4wd on the road at speeds over 20mph. And this is in Canada.

true, the ad is for a 8" mk3 diff, but I got my 7.5" diff from a '82 or '83 Celica Supra independant rear suspension . . . .

Not that much really. Just had the one day where it was a pain in the butt to get to work.

Thanks for all the replies folks. I sent the seller a message asking for the axle numbers so I could verify what it was and that it'd work in a 7.5" Toyota IFS diff.

His response........ "NO!"

I won't be bidding on that.

I noticed that same ad on ebay last night. I was just about to post a thread on it right now, but looks like you're a step ahead of me Junkers. Good info to know.

A brand new front lock right just sold yesterday on ebay for $130! I entered a bid of $150, but I was a split second too late!
