I have a 1990 4runner 4x4 and am fairly new to working on it. The truck has 163K on it and the front end seems loose and makes some weird noises when I turn. I am keeping this truck for a long time and plan on doing some off roading in it so I don't want anything to break. Does anyone have any opinions on what I should replace/rebuild on the front end? The noise I hear is mainly when I make a turn its like a metal on metal sound. Any help or guidance is appreciated.

 

Grease your steering stops. There is 4 of them, they are usually the cause of grinding/metal on metal sound when turning.

Check your lower balljoints for play, check your idler arm for play (normal wear items)
