Front Brake Upgrade
I was wondering if there are any easy upgrades for brakes beside stainless steel brake lines and brake pads. Are there any other brake calipers that bolt up that seem to more effective at stopping. I just need more stopping power. I have a 88 4runner 22re w/ 35's. I will be downgrading to 33's here in a couple of months so that should help a little bit, but any help would be great..

I think the v6 trucks have better front calipers than the 22re trucks. If you can find those in a junk yard, cheap upgrade. I'm pretty sure I've found that idea around here somewhere...
I didn't know that the turbos had dual diaphragm boosters, but I think the early supras or celicas had them too...
You really want to go all out, do a rear disc swap.

lol @ Matt16... but what about us other people that sometimes use the left leg on the brakes ('cause we can heel-toe things)?
but off the original question- there are 6 piston calipers available (I believe they were V6/turbo related, stock/base were 2 or 4 piston depending...) that will help the brakes work better, vented/slotted rotors can help, but only do so if the brakes are running hot already (like in a high-speed situation), good brake pads can help (but composites usually require high temps before they do anything noticible, so a high-speed situation is where they shine, but definitely go semi-metallic... they might eat up a rotor a bit quicker than an organic pad but also stop way better and work well with vented/slotted rotors), a master cylinder upgrade won't hurt, and for the coup-de-gras... properly adjusted rear brakes work wonders.

don't know about everyone else, but I heel/toe the clutch sometimes... particularly if I know I'm not going to need the clutch right soon.
maybe it's subliminal practice for lockers?
and I've been doing it for 20 years, so maybe I'm just the strange one (okay, well that's obvious, but...)

shh... I'm trying to ignore it... and pay the house bills too.
the sad thing, is it's the 91 auto I find myself using the left for brakes most often... and that's 2wd... gasp.
