Found oil around knock senor when doing headgasket????
Hi I was doing some head gaskets on my 91 4runner 3vze today and when I pulled the the intake w/ the injectors in it I found the cavity below with the knock sensor with probabily a couple cups of oil in it sitting in the cavitys. I can not believe this much oil could get in there from a bad head gasket. Any Ideas?

Yes, oil can get in there from a failed HG. There may be a path for the oil from leaky VC gaskets to get in there too. The oil in that well is often mixed with coolant from the water by-pass tube leaking where it attaches with the two screws or pinholes in the tube. Interestingly, under those two screws is a bit of FIPG/RTV that makes the seal...there is no gasket.
Replace the knock sensor wire while you are there since the heat makes it very brittle.
