My question is will they wire up fairly easy without major cutting or splicing? I've seen plenty of pics of people using these style lights but wasn't sure if it was a bit involved to get all the lights to work correctly. Would FJ40 light assemblies be more compatible?

It has been a while since I did my tail lights on my flatbed that I used to have. For some reason, I had to have two lights on each side to have Stop, Turn, and Tail Light. I am weak in electrical but for some reason Toyota does it a little different on their tail lights. This is on the 84-88 trucks. You do don't say what year, not sure about the 89-95 trucks.

Why not just use the Toyota pick up lights just turn them sideways .

Then just plug them in .

Any but Toyota lights you could just solder on the Toyota plugs.

Not a big fan of that look. Sort of like hanging a picture on the wall sideways. It just doesn't look right IMO.

So, if I purchased this style and swapped/soldered the pigtails it should work?

As long as you have the separate turn signal the tail and brake light. and the back up lights

Here's a pic of the back of the tail light which shows the wiring. I don't see a ground wire?

Then it grounds through the metal housing most likely.

if you live anywhere you have any winter chemicals on the roads make sure to paint the backs real good or in 2 or 3 winters you will be buying new ones.

unless you plan to mount them in weather proof boxes.

Yeah, I know how bad stuff will decay around here. Pair that with crap metal with even crappier casting on thses light housings and they will dissolve in the elements in no time.

I will be fabbing up some boxes to put them in. It should extend there life a few extra years.

Or you could just get some nice led's and install a trailer converter so you dont need separate lights for blinkers.
