I have a 87 runner, and when I picked it up the back window didn't work. I found out that searching the forums is my friend, and I fixed it through the control switch. All that needed to be done is pour some coke over it, rinse it out, reinstall and bingo.

But now to my current problem, and yes I have searched but I thought I would get some ideas before I jumped into some work.

I took the top off for about 3 weeks, and now when I just put it back on today the window will not roll up. I installed the fancy safety bolts in the 3rd hole from the back, tried them both screwed in pretty loose, and tight, no luck. The unit is plugged in in the back, and I have placed the wiper up above on the cap, below it where the window would crush it and everything.

Im thinking maybe the bolt sensor is not working? Maybe I could wire in a switch to bypass it? Can anyone walk me through that?

Any ideas or tips, Its supposed to rain for the next 3 days here in Chicago....

My bolt activated contact switch stopped working on me..

Here is how the switch works. The switch is Normally open, so when there is no bolt, the switch is OFF.. The bolt closes the switch turning it ON.

I replaced the contact switch with a butt connector, so the "bolt" is always in, and the circuit is always in the ON position.

Super easy mod, cut the two wires going into the switch, connect them to each other.

You can prolly clean the grime out of your contact switch and it just work again, I however didn't bother with this extra 5 minutes of work, based on laziness mostly. Just remember that your window will still work when your roof is off.. to fix this, just use the front "LOCK" button.
