First Toyota

Hey guys. I'm a long time lurker, first time poster. I had been looking a while for the right 4runner or pickup and I finally found one the other day. So here's my introduction with my truck.

The truck is a 1991 Toyota pickup with 127k. Its a 5-speed 4x4 with a 22re. I bought it from the original owner who had garaged it since 2004 (due to a memory attached with the truck). It is in perfect condition aside from a dent on the roof and a tiny rip in the seat. Oh and, the motor has a knock, but for the price, I couldn't pass it up. It sounds like a spun bearing, but I won't be sure until I pull it apart.

So here's the picture I have bringing it home:

Right on dude where ya located? If you're in Norcal I'm always up for some mechanics, but always post it up and you'll get a wide variety of opinions on the issue you're dealing with!

Thanks for the welcome guys.

As for the truck, I've been calling around and it looks like I'll have 22reperformance.com rebuild my motor, but if I do this I'll have about 5k into the truck any thoughts on this?

But as for plans, I want to make 37's work. So I'm thinking dana44's front and rear. But I want to make sure it remains 100% daily drivable, its gonna take some work but I'm up to it.

From what I've read on here you don't need D44's to run 37's on that truck. Do the SFA conversion on with a Toyota axle and go from there. The Toy axles are pretty darn tough.

Welcome to the addiction.

I've heard a lot about Engn Bldr, and from what everyone says, they do good work. Sweet lookin little truck man, love those pickups from the 90's.

Welcome to Yotatech. look around long enough and you'll get plenty of inspiration for bad ideas, and ways to spend money , and that will all be ok!!

putney's (22reperformance.com) is located here in northern california in Chico. WELL known and great work. Shipping wouldnt be to bad from WA. With a bad bearing, you're going to be tearing apart the top end just to get to the bottom end, might as well do a full rebuild ay? Things like timing components steel guide), HG, oil and water pumps I would try to use Toyota OE parts, or at the least NAPA's Altrom parts.

Sweet ride, I love those little trucks!

Nice looking rig bud. I'm not that familiar with your area so I can't say what are some good places to send the engine to. Personally I wouldn't pay someone else to rebuild it and instead do it myself but if money is not an issue for you then that is without a doubt the easiest way to go.

Looks like a pretty clean yota you got there. Make sure to fill in your location when you get a chance to.

You can find that under the user control panel up at the top of the page

Yeah I picked it up about an hour after he posted it. He wouldn't budge on his price, but I think its worth it.

And for my motor it looks like I'll be getting it built through 22reperformance.com, I talked to the guy for a while and he definitely knows his stuff.
