There was someone on here a while back that used a mild body lift, motor mount lift, tranny/t-case lifted mounts and a flat sheet of metal to make a complete flat underbelly. I think the gas tank was moved up also so that nothing hung down below the frame rails. Ended up wheeling with what I think were 33's with no suspension lift and did great do to all the ground clearance.

I can't see any reason not to use a small (like 1.5") BL to make it possible to raise the fuel tank up a tad.

 

Junkers88, that is the exact thing I am in the middle of right now, called a drive train lift. There are a lot more details in my build thread.

This is a before and after of the gas tank. For the record I did a 2" BL and this was as high as I could get the tank. It's not all the way flat but it's colse.

Wow! For only being 2" that's a lot more clearance. When you wheeled before that move with the tank did you ever hit it on anything? I ask because I never really hit mine, it drug once in a while, and although I don't do any rock crawling anymore I do go into some rocky areas while finding new spots to fish.

 

Yes, that why my skid is still off in the after pic, it is pretty much mutilated. I am trying to decide if I want to beat mine strait and reinforce it or just build one from scratch out of 3/16" plate.

 

My stock tank skid is all bent up from hitting on stuff. The one on my 92 however, is not bent at all, just scraped....but rusting through. Go figure. Haha.

So with that thought, why not just reinforce the stock one, the added height plus the reinforcement could just work out. And if it doesnt work, then make one.
