First drive with an A340H
Are all trucks with the A340H gutless?
I have been driving a '93, 3.0, 5 spd for the last 5 years and loved every minute of it. Unfortunately the body is so far gone it had to be replaced. I picked up a '91, 3.0, auto last summer and just started driving it last weekend.
Am I just so used to the 5 spd that is seems so gutless or maybe a problem with the engine and it has no berries? It accelerates very slowly and shifts into overdrive around 90km/h at which point it can barely hold that speed on level ground.
I plan to pick up some plugs and wires and give it a tune up next weekend but I am really disappointed with this truck. I was so anxious to drive it and it's a bit of a let down.

Yep, I have had a bunch of toy pups and my latest 87 is an auto and is pretty gutless compared to the manuals, even after rebuilding the motor. My transmission shifts odd at times, premature, and hard occasionally. This is the reason I've collected damn near all the parts needed to pull the auto and swap in a w56
If you have a speed sensor and it goes out or intermittent, it can have symptoms from shifting as you say, to the speedo going to 0 at times. I'm sure there are other problems.

I have all the parts I would need in my '93 to swap in an R150f but I don;t have to time or a garage to do it in right now.
When I press hard on the pedal it seems to take a lot of travel before it kicks down. Does the kickdown cable have anything to do with shifting or is it just for dropping a gear for hard acceleration. I am wondering if the tranny is shifting to soon and the engine is bogging to try and keep up.
