few questions on 4runner parts interchange
Hey guys, my name is Chris and I am new here, but not new to toyotas or cars. I just recently picked up a 94 4runner 2wd with a blown engine. Plans are to swap out the blow 3.slow with a fresh 350/350 combo. I've been don't plenty of research here and on the interweb and it looks like I got most of my ducks lined up. But anyways that is for a different thread. My question is regarding doing a 2wd to 4wd conversion. My questions basically falls on 3rd member interchangeability and hub/spindle set up. According to my door jamb the rear end I have is a 8" with 4.30s. Now being that I want to convert it to 2wd, I plan on finding a donar to get the rear 3rd member and complete front differential in order to have matching gear ratios. I would like to find a factory lsd 3rd, but I believe the lsd 3rd are 7.5s. If that is the case, am I able to replace the 8 with a 7.5 in my existing rear end or do I need a complete rearend? And second I know that the 2wd and 4wd frames and suspensions are the same on these truck and that the diff will bolt in, but what I am wondering is will I just need to pop out dust cap on the 2wd hub and insert a cv axle or do I need to swap it out for a 4wd hub assembly?

Umm... you said you have a 94 4runner 2wd, want to do 2wd > 4wd conversion, then say you want to convert to 2wd.
Anyhow, the truck, were it stock 4wd would be 8" in the back and 7.5" in the front.
Beyond that, you're confused.

Sorry for the confusion, it is a 2wd and I want to go 4wd. I guess my brain is in system overload worth all this info I've been reading lately.
I don't want to do a SAS because I eventually want to do a long travel setup.

If you really want to do that like was said,
Get rid of every thing below the frame Go with a Ford 8" rear I don`t know why you want a IFS but The Toyota Will not handle a over ambitious skinny pedal
Your going to need to custom build the whole drive train.
Been there broke the parts it gets so very expensive you can do it from the start or as components fail most often in a quite impressive manor.
