Exclamation A few issues.

Hello all,

I am new to this board. I have done lots of searching on here & have found out a lot of things about my truck. I still have a few issues. I am running a 95 Toyota 4runner V6 4X4 3.0 Liter in the cold Alberta weather. I have had this since July 07.
1) My truck is overheating under certain conditions. Example one, I was driving on the highway, came to a dead stop for 2 hours due to an accident. My indicator went all the way to the beginning of the red. This has happened a few times. Once my truck cools down, I have checked & my rad is just about out of coolant however my resevoir is still full. I am thinking it is the thermostat but I wanted some more input. I have replaced the rad cap, had a complete flush & I have even added a stop leak product. Since I have added the stop leak, it seems to be running good.
2) I have an unbelievable sound coming from my dash when I run my truck cold. It seems to be tied with how fast I am going. The faster I go, the louder it is. Any Ideas?
3) My RPMs are really high when I am driving in 5th gear. Usually when I am doing about 120/kmph (in regualr 2H), my RPMs are about 3500. Is this normal & if not, what should I do to fix this?
4) When I turn on my AC in the summer, when it first starts there is a very loud screeching sound. Any ideas?
Thanks to anyone & everyone that can help me out. Merry Christmas!

1. Sounds like a leak. Check all connections and radiator for a leak.

2. ?

3. http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html, http://www.brian894x4.com/Gearratiosanddiffs.html, http://www.4lo.com/4LoCalc.htm

Check out some of these links

4. Sounds like the belt is slipping on the compressor pulley when turned on. Check the belt tension. Try spraying some belt dressing on it.

Hope some of this helps.

J

i dont know whats wrong with your overheating, i have had no cooling fan for i dont know how long, i guess the connections at the bottom outside of the rad was in such bad shape it broke off and i have had NO heating problems, and i live in Belize! lol i agree with jason191918, check your belt for the A/C squeal. good luck!

Sounds like your speedo cable, they are known to make horrible noise when worn. Try spraying some lube in there, somtimes that will "fix" it, but somtimes you need a new cable.

1) could be more or less normal if it was a hot day and you were running the A/C. Stand still traffic + A/C sometimes = overheat.
2) pretty sure this one is the speedo cable. I had the same thing on my '90 pickup. I tried to lube it but it didn't work. get a new cable
3) depends on ratio of rear end
4) sounds like a slightly loose or otherwise worn out belt

I highly doubt the noise would be a speedo cable as the 92 and up trucks did not have one. They are electronic. I don't know about the heating thing so i wont say anything. And like the others said check the gear ration on the door jamb out that will tell you what is happening with the rpms. And the AC thing more than likely is your belt.

search "burping the radiator" sounds like air in the cooling system, which may be the cause of #1 also. my a/c screaches when i first turn it on also. it works really well so i deal with the screach even though i tightened the belt several times.
