Go get estimates, if the total repair cost is more than $500 than I'd give the other guy the choice of paying for it himself or having his insurance do it. No body shop is going to fix this for $50, sadly. It sounds good but it won't happen. They'll charge you more than that just to sand it to get it ready for bondo. My guess from a good shop is $700. Honestly. That's more than $50 worth of paint at a good body shop, and that doesn't even include prep.

I would just get some estimates, get the check from his insurance, fix it myself as best I could and pocket the rest of the cash. If you can a $1200 plus dollar estimate, I would just buy a new tail light, and sand that down a little and primer it and call it a day. Now you are about $1100 richer. But that's just me, I don't really care if my truck has a few dents or scratches as long as it runs good.

Will do. I wouldnt of cared with my car. But the paint is so new on my truck it would just irritate me.

i work for my dad and we own a body shop we could fix that for $200 if we got a used tail light, from the looks its been hit there before cause it cracked a chunk of filler out. thats like a 1 day job too honestly, anyone could handle fixin that themselves the hard part would be matching the paint in your yard or garage but if you dont care then id go for it.

Got a quote today. $350 plus parts. They dont know how close they can match the paint.

I wouldn't go through insurance for something that small. It will end up costing you both more in insurance in the long run. Make a cash deal and be done with it.

$350? thats it? Holy j**p thats cheap. Shows how much different economies effect pricing. How many estimates did you get? Is it a chain shop or independently owned? I know I've kinda already buirnt my bridge in this thread...but if they know what they're doing...they can match the paint. And thats why you blend the base, so you don't notice the colour difference. You don't want them to try and match a single stage to the 2 stage the rest of you truck is painted in. It will look like crap...assuming you have a base/clear paint on your truck...

I went throu a family owned shop. The guy that hit me is actually related to the shop "i think thats why its so cheap". They said they would just reshoot the whole side. They said there going to play hell matching the paint.

You didnt burn your bridge, Different locations in the states and differnt "grade" shops im sure has the biggest role in price.
