fan question ?

i have a 88 4runner automatic 22re, it had a mechanical fan on it. i removed it and added a electric fan, works great then someone today told me its bad for my auto trans not to have the old fan. because the fan helps slow the cam in turn slows the amount of fluid making it to my tranny. I myself thought hes just full of it but i wanted to make sure that im not missing something here

Uh no, unless its temp controlled And even then no not really..

Your adding an extra X-XX# of dead weight, and the alternator and wiring losses. If it is temp controlled you still have the dead weight, but for that first minute or so till it kicks on the fan yeah a little bit.

To really benefit from an electric fan you'd want an electric water pump also, and thats still very situational.
