Fan Bracket Won"t Fit on 3.0

Hey Gang. I recently replaced the water pump, timing belt and both idler pulleys on my 95 4runner 3.0 . When I went to put on the fan bracket, it was hitting the #1 idler pulley. I took off the new idler and put on the old one...same result. When I take the idler pulley off completely, then the fan bracket goes on smooth. When I put on the new timing belt on ,everything lined up and the pulleys lined up after 2 rotations. I already tried looking through alot of the threads, no luck , just frustration. If anyone has any ideas or pictures on how it should fit on or look .........PLEASE help. thanks

fan bracket

Is it a new fan bracket or the old one & is the idler pulley adjusted correctly?

And that is a tensioner, not an idler that the bracket is hitting.

It's the old fan bracket and I thought that you can only adjust the tension once the fan bracket is installed??

fan bracket

You need to adjust the tensioner, then install the fan bracket.

on the 95, the tensioner mounts to the fan bracket. Seems like something isn't installed right.

Pics would help...

Seems like I ran into this same problem a few months back. IIRC, I had the tensioner on completely wrong. Sorry I can't be much help, but the fog that is my memory isn't telling me much.

I tried to post a couple of pics but it said my file was to big. I'll try to make them smaller and post them again.

You need to install the fan bracket first, THEN bolt the hydraulic tensioner into the fan bracket. It will then pull the timing belt tight.

I can't get the fan bracket over the idler pulley. I took the tensioner off before I tried putting the fan bracket back on.

Well i guess I am not seeing it then. you have everything installed correctly. Sometimes you need to pull up a little bit on that tensioner pulley, since there is enough slack to let it hang down and contact the bracket.

Ya, that idler should move to the right a little, tighten the belt, and the bracket should fit over. The idler is moving, right?

I finally got it set up. There is a bolt hole just behind and off center from where the idler bolt should have been. Well...... as the famous saying goes "Learn from your mistakes". Thanks for all your help. CHEERS!!!!

Yep, that's what happened to me too. It's all coming back to me now. Wrong hole, but it looks pretty normal.
