Angry failed IM test, high carbonmonoxide levels/ new 22re engine

so i just dropped a new 22re in my 92 4runner, theres no check engine light after 600 miles. had to replace the TPS at the get go. all other sensors checked out just fine. i also checked for vacuum leaks,(carb cleaner) cant find any.

what i have noticed is, when i start it up it idles really high 2000 rpm, after getting to full temp, it works its way back down to 800 rpm. the idle screw is all the way down. also when i turn on the heater it drops my idle a good 100 rpm. and it eats fuel like a v6. also when i got the truck the guy told me he hollowed out the catalytic converter, cause it was cloged.

took it in for a IM test and it failed, mechanic said "high carbonmonoxide levels".

have you checked your ignition timing? also, have you replaced the cat? you need a cat to reduce CO levels... the cat will catalyze most of the CO into CO2

cold start high idle is normal, especially older toyotas... it's to help promote fuel atomization and to warm up the cat quickly

give it more then 600 miles to break in the engine and seat the rings. It's probably what's causing it. Also a gutted cat doesn't help pass emissions one bit.

Depends on how you drive it. If it's like grandma, it might never seat correctly. Also depends on machining and who you talk to. Some say rings should seat out of the gate, but I don't feel that way as it's pretty typical for a new engine to burn a small amount of oil. BTW is this a new or rebuilt engine? I would say a New engine would seat slightly faster then a rebuilt. But not by much. I would say check at the 3-4000 mile mark and get a cat on it if you need to pass smog.

I have a good feeling he will pass with a new cat, broken in or not... the other numbers look good so it should pass

I'm not surprised at all it failed because there's no cat
