Factory Toyota Part - What is it?

1992 Toyota 4Runner, SR5 3.0 6cyl 4x4

This sits on the passengers side frame rail over top of the idler arm.

PS lines come in and go out.

1 small brake line like comes in and goes out.

Does anyone know what this is?

Yeah its a rear wheel ABS actuator. They don't do anything so I'm not surpised you did know you had it. Here's mine before I took it out: http://community.webshots.com/photo/...42310107BVIARv

It didn't help with my insurance co., maybe because it was just the rear wheels, not a complete ABS system? Mine never seemed to do anything, even when new. It didn't pulse or shutter during hard braking like other vehicles I've driven with 4 wheel ABS and the rear wheels would lockup on ice or snow!

The early primative abs systems were dogs compared to what we have today. I'm not surpised you didn't notice it working when you had it.

I recall driving a small chevy rental car that had 4 wheel abs back around '90 or so and it barely worked either. I got it to lock all 4 wheels on a dirt road going about 30. I had to laugh at it...

Btw goat, why did you remove yours?

Just one less thing to screw up?

They had to remove the sensor in the rear diff when I got an ARB locker installed, or so they said. So I had been driving for many years with it not working. Then the actuator was taking up the perfect spot for my Aquamist pump, so I removed the actuator to make room for it. http://community.webshots.com/photo/...42310107rvyYZM

I guess the PS pump provides some hydraulic power for the actuator.
