Extra Lighting - So many options

So...It's no surprise that the stock lights on a 92 Runner aren't the best. I haven't found any good articles on replacement of them. Changing bulbs to brighter ones doesn't do much since the cut off lines are and beam pattern just plain bites. So given the condition of our Runner, I like clean lines and don't want to hang a bunch of stuff off the front....Looking for opinons. Let me know or show me what you've done. I should clarify, looking for good offroad visibility, but additionally with the rain in Portland....looking for good light on the ground while driving at night on rain coated blacktop, which is hard to see anyway.

Before I put the ARB bumper on my old '91 4Runner, I ran Hella 500s on the stock bumper.

Very easy to do, and lots of "how to" threads here on how to wire them up.

Just one hole through the bumper for each lamp.

Ide vote some hella 500s, or even some small square foglights mounted in the lower part of the bumper, near the valance. BTW Yellow foglights cut through fog/rain best

I went with the hella 500's too.

I'm still looking to make everything brighter so im looking at:
-Switching the hella bulbs to 100 watt bulbs
-getting the round eyes conversion housings
-upgrading the stock wiring with a setup similar to 4crawlers replacement harness

my friend fit some lights in between the grill and radiator of his s10, looks real nice. i think they were just some cheap autozone lights that looks like hellas or kc's, just ifnd a slim version.

I was reading up on fogs last year and found some articles on the net that had comparisons yellow, white lights etc and yellows for sure did not come out at "cutting" through the fog. I was so positive they did as I owned a vehicle with them on it but I was proven wrong (a friend had white fogs and we compared...for what's it's worth LOL). Not to rain down on ya...I just want people to avoid being misinformed as well do some research before making an investment. I'll try to pull up those articles, I just googled something like "fog light comparison"

I dunno...I've run yellow fogs on a lot of my vehichles, and I feel that they do a better job in heavy rain/fog than the white lights.

Yeah, I guess in the end it's whatever makes YOU see better...I'd rather share the road with someone who can see, regardless of type of light. I was just trying to say do your homework before...with anything, I've been ripped off and mislead a few times, that's all. To each his/her own, cheers

yellow fogs are supposed to be better, i think, because they aren't supposed to create as much glare that bounces back into your eyes as white light

I've got some Sylvania Silverstar's on my '94. They are bright, but aimed TOO LOW. They work best when it's wet out, because they reflect back up off of the wet pavement... I'm thinking about investing in some aux lighting myself. I'm still looking into KC, or some Hella 500's. I'm still torn between the two, but the Hella's seem to win the hearts of more people. Nice looking rig, BTW! What size tires are those?

Another vote for Hella 500's. I use mine so many times i that i couldn't live without them.

Also, check out the threads and pictures created by Keggo. He did a HID projector conversion using the factory headlamps...

Thanks. The Silver stars do help. They were a big improvement...I've read the thread in the Misc classified section on getting the HID conversion kit. I'm going to try it. Sounds like lot's of happy people from a lot of different forums. Doesn't seem to be the cheap kit that most are. I'll try that first prior to drilling a hole in the bumper. Don't want to do that. I like the idea of placing between the grill and radiator. On my 68 BMW 2002 I took two Hella 500's and put behind the grills. And the tires are 305/16's.

Piaa 60xt

I am running piaa 60xt driving lights and I used a performance products valance which had space available to accomodate the lights. The lights are mounted on an L bracket which is mounted to the frame. I also have a pair of 60xt fogs in the box, which I could swap out w/ changing the wiring harness. I'm happy with the brightness of the driving lights for now. I have very little mechanical experience, and installed the valance and lights with wiring on my own. Sorry for the lack of pictures other than the avatar.
