Excessivly High Idle

Hello Folks,

I have an issue with my truck idling excessively high (1500-2200RPM) on a cold start-up. Also sometimes it will start and idle at 1200 RPM for a few seconds, then it will slowly creep up, up, and up until 2000 or so. However when the truck is warm there is no issue. The high idleing is the only issue, no surging or any thing. I know my throttle body is pretty gunky and am going to clean that, however since I will be in there, you all got any other ideas for me to check? Thanks.

I have the same issue and I am fairly sure my idle control valve needs to be adjusted.

So when you say your truck is fine when warm do you mean the idle is fine when warm? If the idle is high when the motor is at normal operating temp pinch off the large vacuum hose going into the IACV(idle air control valve) and if your idle drops theres your problem. Search how to clean and possibly adjust if possible.

Check for vacuum leaks using carb cleaner or brake cleaner
