Stupid question I know but here goes... Do you have rear heat and are sliding to the cool side?

I used to have alot of heat coming from that area, then I remember'd my rear heat and moved it into the cold position and now it's not quite so hot!

The doublesided thermal shielding is awesome! I sold buttloads of that when I worked at Napa

 

yeah I do have the rear heat and yes it is set to the coldest point. I've actually considered blocking the lines that go in there to keep that area from heating up. Haven't had a chance to tear open the console though to see whats in there.

I think though i have a draft coming in from down there cause last winter i felt a draft of cold air blowing from below the passenger seat when driving on the highway. my wife would complain about her feet being cold but I just thought she was being a nag so i ignored her until i put my hand down there and felt the draft while driving.

 

well if you have a draft there, that'll dump the lovely heat coming from your tranny and your exhaust right inside as well!

 

tell me about it. maybe i should mod up a small rack to place hotpockets and poptarts that way i can have a snack at the end of my trips,lol

What or where did you get your tranny cooler? I just dumped loads of money into my tranny and engine and want to protect it.
It's funny when I was a little younger I spent every dime I had to get more horsepower out of my mustang, but I am a little older and it seems every penny is going into prolonging the life of my investment.

 

I had to mod the rear heater control to go just hair more to the off posission or it would warm up.

A Bad cats can cause this too, Do you notice any performance issues.....

My 93 ext cab does the same. I thought perhaps is was because I removed 2 of the 3 shifter boots during the body lift. I used adhesive heat shielding (applied under the truck) and it helped a little bit but it still uncomfortable on long drives. I get out and get under the truck and feel the tranny but it is not warm to the touch at all. I've really only noticed it in the last couple years when I vacationed in Kelowna (usually mid to high 30's celsius occassionaly gets up into the 40's).

 

There is a shut off valve attached to the firewall for your heater box water shutoff. Make sure it's shutting ALL the way off and not letting a little bit of water thru. I had this issue on my '94 xtracab 4x4 and that's what it turned out to be.

 

Yes I believe it is the Catalytic Convertor has gone bad. Probably clogged up or could be that your engine is running too rich causing fuel to ignite inside the convertor. This could be in conjunction with a bad shifter boot (part # 33555-35040) sucking more of that hear below into your cabin when the windows are down.

 

Check to see if the exhaust heat shields are still in place? If surface rusty, remove them, prep the surface, and re-coat with heat resistant bright silver paint to reflect the radiant heat. Can't hurt.
