excessive heat near the center console
Does anyone else with the 2nd gen 4Runner v6 have issues with excessive heat coming from beneath the center consul and the footwell by the gas petal? I know the exhaust runs through that area below but damn its hot :fire:. Its so bad that driving with the ac on is a necessity.
anybody else having this issue? thanks |
Have to turn on the AC huh? Isn't like 100 deg there? Yeah mine gets hot too, especially on long trips, its normal.

My first gen gets incredibly hot down there. Driving with the doors off helps to alleviate the issue.

Has anyone on the boards ever tried applying this:
http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/P...002669/c-10101 I'm wondering if its worth the time install this stuff. its not like much would be needed and if it does what it claims it would be a great improvement. |
Same issue here. I actually just noticed it, I was wondering what the hell was going on when I realized my foot was burning up. Those little side "smoker" windows help alot too.

My center console gets hotter than donut grease on a long trip.

I take it you have an auto, mine gets pretty hot too. I have noticed a considerable difference since I installed my tranny cooler. I have not yet got my tranny temp gauge installed, so I don't know how much it has helped. It is definately noticable though.

On a long vacation last month we had a bunch of maps/atlas/brochures/etc between the seats and console...wow you could have cooked something in that space.
And I have a tranny cooler. |

Never noticed that being attached down there. I'll have to take a look and see. If it is missing, whould it be difficult to install on without removing half the engine? As for the tranny cooler suggestion, perhaps incorporating that and the heat shielding inside the cab would be an improvement from both ends. |
So I am having the same problem and have considered both the tranny cooler and the heat stuff. I started to notice mine after I had my tranny rebuilt, I did not even think about looking to see if they removed the heat shield.
Two people on this post have put tranny coolers on, one said it helped the other says their console still gets hot...anybody else put a cooler on and noticed a diff? |

Go to Pep Boys and buy some heat shield, JC W also carries the stuff (I didn't look at the above link). That is the first thing I do to all my toyotas because that heat on the floor board and center hump is unbearable on long trips. This stuff works great, doesn't make much difference on sound but the heat is gone.

the tranny and exhaust can really heat up the floor. in fact, the owner's manual from my '79 says to not drive with bare feet or touch the floorboards  never got hot enough for me to ever have a problem though.

Yah it gets pretty darn hot down there, works great for heating up HotPockets though.

my guess is it goes in the inside. it wont last too long outside and if it peels off you'll end up with a big mess |
