got a little break in the weather to dink around under the hood, definitely a vacuum leak. the idle changes when the brake is pushed, and there is a hiss somewhere. i didnt have a helper so i couldnt pinpoint where it was leaking, also lookin at new brakepads and maybe get the rotors turned.

again thanks everyone for putting up with my retarded question, all of your advice really helped.

i had a similar issue a long time ago with my truck but it didn't die totally but made the truck run bad while holding the brake pedal to the floor... this for me ended up being my brake booster.... i was replaceing the master cyl and found that the master cyl had been leakin from behind onto the booster causing a lil rust hole and thus... vac leak... i hope for you its nothin worse but thats what it sounds like to me.... reman brake booster about 130$
