Why are u swapping the engine? The one in the pickup and the one in the 4 runner are the exact Same motor. (Maybe some slight emissions changes but no biggie) didn't u drive the 4runner with the 22re?

Engine swap no issues but the clutch plate is smaller.
I did this and after three years had to put in another new clutch. Regular driving ok, but if you 4wheel you will be replacing the clutch more often.

Like milkybar said, get a new clutch and replace rear seal since the motor will be out. Or why don't u just do the gasket?

You will have to change the following parts in order to stick a 2wd engine into a 4wd truck.
Oil pan
Oil pickup tube
Flywheel
Clutch kit
Now that you have that info here's some more you need to know.
The two engines are the same however there from different years. Your 89 engine may or may not have different plugins on it. For example the injects may have oval plugins on the 89 but have square on the 4Runner. If your going to swap engines I'd highly suggest that you use the Entire EFI setup from which ever vehicle your swapping the engine into. That way you know that everything will hook up correctly. It's easier to swap intakes and such while the engine is out rather then doing it while its installed.
Just my 2 Cents good luck

I'm taking everything but tranny out of the 89truck and use the 91 4runner I put new shocks and up control arms with a fab tech lift, also torsion bars all of this can go on? Truck has 5 lug and 4runner has 6lug still interchangeable?? I got wheels figured out already, early Tom is start of it. Brand new Ingersollrand guns

If you're asking how to pull the last 2 tranny bell housing bolts you gotta go thru the shift lever cutout in the cab with about 30" of extensions. Helps to have someone in the wheelwell guiding the socket onto the bolt.
Separating them is just a matter of wiggling and pulling. Be sure to support the tranny because it will be under a bunch of strain if left hanging with no engine.
